• KEMPTON PARK MOTORCYCLE EVENTS BOUGHT BY MORTONS

MORTONS MEDIA GROUP is delighted to announce the acquisition of the Kempton Park bike jumbles and motorcycle shows.

Eric Patterson and Andy KitchenThe events company has added the seven one-day events to its already packed calendar which includes the two Stafford classic shows, the Telford off-road show and the ’Normous Newark Autojumbles.

Andy Kitchen of Mortons’ events division will head up the new series and said: “I can’t wait to get started. The Kempton shows are really popular and well attended and I look forward to taking them forward over the coming years.”

The new organising team will run the next event on Saturday, July 23, and although a period of transition will be taking place, traders, exhibitors and visitors can contact Andy should they have any enquiries.

He added: “It’s business as usual as far as we’re concerned and we’re confident that the handover will be a smooth one. Anyone who has any questions can get in touch either by email or on the phone – akitchen@mortons.co.uk or 01507 529435.”

While founder Eric Patterson has decided the time is right to step down after 30 years, he will remain on board working with Mortons to develop the shows further over the coming years.

He said: “It’s going to be strange no longer being ‘in charge’, but I am delighted to be handing over the reins to Mortons which is a company I’ve worked closely with for several years. The events are in good hands.”

Andy was quick to ensure Eric received the proper recognition and added: “What Eric’s done deserves huge praise. From small beginnings he’s grown the Kempton autojumbles into some of the leading events on the classic bike calendar.

“He hands them over to us in great shape, and we’re excited about adding our knowledge and experience to a winning formula.”

The remaining Kempton Park dates for this year are: Saturdays July 23, September 17, October 22 and December 3. The December event also comprises the Southern Off Road & Racing Show. For more details, visit www.kemptonparkautojumble.co.uk

• Southern Classic Bike Show - 24th May 2014 - Star Guest: Phil Read MBE

HOT OFF THE PRESS: Winner of eight world championships between 1964 and 1977, Phil Read MBE is Britain’s most successful living motorcycle road racer and at EGP Enterprises Southern Classic Bike Show on 24th May, you have a chance to meet him!

'Rebel Read' who was never far from controversy, will be at the ACE Café Stand signing copies of his revealing autobiography, in which the Prince of Speed vividly recalls hectic track battles against riders like Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini, and Barry Sheene, all of whom he beat in races at various times.

Phil Read

Starting out on a bike bought by his doting mother in 1956, he announced his entry in big-time racing with an Isle of Man TT victory in 1961. Three years later he took his first of four world title's on Yamaha bikes, plus two more in a row with the mighty Italian MV Agusta team. An eighth world championship came from Read’s courageous ride to victory on wet roads in the 1977 Formula 1 TT race, on a heavy 810cc Honda.
